Programs For Children and Families
Family Programs have been generously underwritten by the San Antonio Area Foundation and the Faye L. and William L. Cowden Charitable Foundation. Additional support provided by the San Antonio Museum of Art Docent Association and Whataburger.
First Sundays for Families (all ages)
Children and families are invited to explore the collections, create art and share Sundays at the Museum. Enjoy interactive fun to include sketching, painting, storytelling, films, performances and more. There’s no need to make a reservation; just stop by as we explore a new gallery each month. This program is free for children 12 and under. Beginning in 2016, First Sundays for Families begins at 11:00 am and ends at 3:00 pm.
Family Flicks (all ages)
Family Flicks is an outdoor film series in collaboration with Slab Cinema, and held second Saturdays at sundown during the spring and summer months. Films begin promptly at sundown. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnics. Please visit the calendar of events for specific film listings and times. During inclement weather, Family Flicks will be cancelled.
Art Crawl (caregivers and babies 0-18 months)
Moms, dads and caregivers – put your babies in their slings (or strollers) and walk with us through the galleries. Tours are geared towards parent-child interaction and the art is chosen to engage both you and your infant. Each tour ends with playtime. Check events calendar for monthly theme.
Playdates (ages 2 to 4)
Playdates cultivate, nurture, and inspire creativity while developing an appreciation of art and world cultures. Every Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m., children experience stories, gallery activities, hands-on art, movement, and music. Reservations required via our online events calendar.
Summer Camps – Online registration begins March, 2016
Summer camp receives additional support from the San Antonio Museum of Art Docent Association.
Homeschool Student Workshops (ages 5 to 12)
Designed specifically for homeschool students and their parents. Participate as a family in a guided experience of the Museum’s encyclopedic collection with a tour and hands-on activity, and extend learning through art at home with materials provided by the museum! Advance registration required.
