New York, NY—October 28, 2025—Lana Meador, Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the San Antonio Museum of Art, was awarded a fellowship in the 2025 Propel Program cohort, announced by the Association of Art Museum Curators Foundation.
Meador joined the curatorial staff at SAMA in 2015 and has co-curated six exhibitions, including Texas Women: A New History of Abstract Art (2020), and curated nine exhibitions, including Readymade Remix: New Approaches to Familiar Objects, during her tenure at the Museum. In 2023, she initiated the Gateway project series to activate the Museum’s Great Hall with a site-specific installation by New York-based artist Carlos Rosales-Silva. The second project in the series by Marisa Morán Jahn is set to be unveiled in November. She has also pushed forward the expansion of SAMA’s contemporary art collection.
An initiative organized by the AAMC Foundation, the Propel Program is designed to support and accelerate curators’ mid-career advancement. Ten fellows are selected for the program each year.
"I am incredibly honored to be selected for the AAMC Foundation’s Propel Program,” Meador said. “I look forward to connecting with curators across the globe, learning from their experiences and expertise, and sharing about SAMA’s initiatives."
The fellowship program includes an in-person residency, direct mentorship from a senior curator, intensive learning sessions, an in-person workshop, and an invitation to the 2026 Art Curators Conference.
“The San Antonio Museum of Art takes pride in the thoughtful acquisitions that Meador has made to grow the Museum’s collection; the engaging way in which she interacts with the public, including artists and students, in tours and talks; and the promise of her work in the future,” said Neff. “Given the competitiveness of the program, it is a big accomplishment that she was chosen for a fellowship in the Propel Program’s 2025 cohort. We’re looking forward to seeing how she implements her learnings from the program in our Museum.”
The AAMC Foundation was founded in 2001 and supports and promotes the work of art curators at all stages in their careers through opportunities for networking, collaboration, professional development, and career advancement. Established in 2014, the AAMC Foundation’s Propel Program has welcomed Fellows across thirty U.S. States and fourteen countries.
