Museum to Participate in Museums for All Program

January 08 – January 08, 2020

Reduced admission for 18 and under, and free hours continue for Bexar County Residents effective January 20, 2020

San Antonio, TX—January 6, 2020—The San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) announced today that it has joined Museums for All and is offering $3 general admission during all hours to SNAP EBT cardholders and their families. The Museum also announced that it has refocused its free admission hours on Bexar County residents. The Museum remains free to children 12 and under.

Museums for All is a signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Association of Children’s Museums, that encourages people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong engagement with the arts. The program supports families receiving food assistance benefits (SNAP) visiting the Museum for a reduced admission fee of $3 per person, up to four people, with the presentation of a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. Museums for All is part of SAMA’s commitment to welcome all. SAMA joins other San Antonio cultural institutions in its participation including the San Antonio Botanical Garden, and the DoSeum. The San Antonio Museum of Art is also reducing general admission for youths 13 to 18 from $12 to $10.

The Museum will continue its free admission hours but will now focus them on Bexar County residents only. Free hours for county residents are Tuesday evenings (4 p.m. to 9 p.m.), which is sponsored by H-E-B, and Sunday mornings (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.), which is underwritten by the Mays Family Foundation.

General admission prices for adults, seniors, and military remain unchanged; membership prices also remain the same, offering members free, unlimited general admission for one year. These changes will go into effect on January 20, 2020.

William Rudolph, Co-Interim Director, noted that the decision to join Museums for All and reduce the youth admission price while making the change to the Museum’s free hours reflects the importance of the Museum’s commitment to providing access while also generating the earned income necessary to sustain its programs. “We believe that Museum visitation will continue to thrive by improving our accessibility for younger visitors and working families, and by focusing our free hours on visitors who live in our home area of Bexar County.”

Admissions and membership revenue provide crucial support for the care of the Museum’s world-renowned collections, the development of internationally recognized exhibitions, and the presentation of public programs and educational activities.

Youth 13 to 18: $10 (formerly $12)
