ReCollections: Mountain & Water
NOTE: ReCollections is intended for individuals living with Alzheimer's and related dementias and their families/caregivers.
ReCollections: Mountain & Water offers a calming, dementia-friendly exploration of the dramatic landscapes found on Chinese blue‑and‑white porcelain. Participants enjoy guided conversation around selected artworks, followed by a simple, expressive art activity using flowing blue washes to create abstracted landscapes.
ReCollections represents a partnership between the San Antonio Museum of Art, the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases, UT Health San Antonio, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Grace Place to deliver art museum experiences to individuals living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, as well as their families and caregivers.
Sessions include facilitated conversations inspired by artworks in the Museum’s collection to encourage close looking, reminiscence, and storytelling, followed by hands-on artmaking.
