Off the Wall: Home Altars
People of all faiths and across time and cultures have devised ways to customize their worship practices by making home altars. How and why do people worship at home, rather than (or in addition to) in a church or temple? How is home worship different from a community experience? We will explore home altar practices across the world, from Aztec, ancient Greek, Buddhist, and Christian traditions.
Off the Wall is a curated tour series that explores special topics across SAMA’s collections. Each session is developed and facilitated by passionate docents who can’t wait to share the stories behind SAMA’s most captivating artworks and hidden gems.
