In conjunction with the exhibition New African Masquerades: Artistic Innovations and Collaborations, SAMA will present a screening of Visages de Masques, an experimental documentary directed by Hervé Youmbi. Youmbi will introduce the project and its artistic significance, and the screening will be followed by Q&A with the artist.

Hervé Youmbi (b. 1973, Bangui, Central African Republic) is one of Cameroon’s most acclaimed and internationally prominent artists. His work broadly explores the reception and commodification of African art forms in the global contemporary art world, in international markets for “traditional” African art, and in local Grassfields communities of Western Cameroon.

Lectures and Artist Conversations are made possible by generous support from the Louis A. and Frances B. Wagner lecture fund.
