Father’s Day at SAMA

Father’s Day at SAMA

Looking for a special way to celebrate Father’s Day? There’s something for every father and father figure to enjoy at SAMA!

Learn Together

The whole family can explore and enjoy the Museum’s current special exhibition, Envisioning the Hindu Divine: Expanding Darshan and Manjari Sharma. The show features forty historical objects from India and Southeast Asia and nine large-scale photographs by global contemporary artist Manjari Sharma.

Connect with Art

Find the gallery that speaks to your family! With nearly 30,000 works representing 5,000 years of history, SAMA has something for everyone.

Want to stay on theme for the day? View the paintings made by the San Antonian father-son duo, Robert Jenkins Onderdonk and Robert Julian Onderdonk, displayed together in the Texas art gallery.

Robert Jenkins Onderdonk (American, 1853 - 1917), San Antonio River, 1886, Oil on canvas, Framed: 16 7/8 × 14 3/4 in. (16 7/8 × 14 3/4 in.), San Antonio Museum of Art, bequest of Weldon Sheffield, 2000.4

Julian Onderdonk (American, 1882 - 1922), Under the Branches, 1909, Oil on canvas, 16 x 24 in. (40.6 x 61 cm), San Antonio Museum of Art, gift of Gilbert M. Denman, Jr., 73.69.3

Lunch at Tre

Grab a bite to eat at Tre! Find a table by the Riverwalk, and unwind with food and drinks inspired by Tuscany, Italy. Tre Trattoria opens early at 10 a.m. on Father’s Day with special dishes made for the man of the hour, plus SAMA members receive a 10% discount and free parking in the Museum lot.

River Views

Continue your day by the river with a stop at the River Pavilion. Find a seat and admire the mural by Suzy Gonzalez, or take a moment to reflect near the Taihu rock. You’ll also find the “Still Brewing Art” neon sign hanging on the brick wall behind the pavilion.

Photo Time

Remember the day by taking a photo together. There are unique photo spots and murals around the Museum that make fun backgrounds. If you need some inspiration, pick up a “Pics or it Didn’t Happen” brochure in the Great Hall.

Leave with a Gift

On your way home, be sure to stop by the Museum Shop. From books and puzzles to SAMA swag and camping mugs, there is something to pique every interest. Don’t let your dad go home without a gift.

Bonus: Stop by the big metal sign in front of the Museum and find a spot on the back to put your admission sticker! Over the years, putting your sticker on the sign has become a tradition for many of SAMA’s guests.
