Mi Casa, Your Casa

June 17, 2016–September 06, 2016

Sculpture Garden

Mi Casa, Your Casa is a creative design installation conceived and created by contemporary Mexican designers Hector Esrawe and Ignacio Caden. The installation features ten red three-dimensional open frames in the shape of a house. Mi Casa, Your Casa invites the community to participate in the life of the Museum through recreation, social interaction, performances, and art-making. It is also a place of relaxation with hammocks.

Mi Casa, Your Casa takes its inspiration from the home, a simple metaphor of warmth and welcoming, and also from the lively street markets or mercados of Latin America where human connections are made every day. This project explores how engagement with art and design can be extended beyond the Museum's walls, bringing culture to everyone. "Mi Casa, Your Casa is welcoming, convivial, and fun, just like San Antonio. We want people to feel at home at the Museum," said Kelso Director Katie Luber. "We are so grateful to the Mexican Consul here in San Antonio and the Mexican government for this interactive art opportunity."

Mi Casa, Your Casa is free to the public and on view in our Sculpture Garden during regular Museum hours,

Originally commissioned as a site-specific installation for the High Museum in Atlanta, Mi Casa, Your Casa is made possible thanks to the artists Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena, the Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE), Consulado de México en San Antonio, Instituto Cultural de México and the Agencia Mexicana de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AMEXCID).
