Legacy of Beauty opens October 3, 2014, in the Museum’s Special Exhibitions Gallery and runs through January 4, 2015. This exhibition pays tribute to Walter F. Brown’s life as a passionate collector of Chinese ceramics and as a lifetime trustee of the Museum. The San Antonio Museum of Art has a world-renowned Asian art collection, and Chinese ceramics are its greatest strength.

Along with his wife, Lenora, the Browns gave over 700 works of art to the Museum. This exhibition highlights areas of extraordinary depth and excellence including: Han to Tang dynasty ceramic sculpture, Liao dynasty ceramics, blue and white porcelain from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and porcelain from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Featuring 45 objects, Legacy of Beauty is a journey through 2,000 years of Chinese ceramics and provides insights on the discerning taste of a remarkable collector. In conjunction with this exhibition, The San Antonio Museum of Art has published Chinese Ceramics The Lenora and Walter F. Brown Collection at the San Antonio Museum of Art. This large-format book with vivid, full-page illustrations highlights some of the greatest treasures of the Museum, all gifts to the Museum from Lenora and Walter F. Brown.
