Student Workshops

Guided Tours

Student Workshops, offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, are two-hour educational experiences exploring a special exhibition in-depth followed by a hands-on studio project.

  • Student Workshops are 2 hours long.
  • Two week’s advance reservation is required.
  • Student Workshops are offered throughout the school year on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:30 -11:30 a.m.
  • The Museum can accommodate 30 students per workshop.
  • The Museum requires at least 1 chaperone per 10 students. Chaperone must be 18 years or older.
  • Students, teachers, and chaperones will be admitted to the Museum for free.
  • Space may be reserved for students to eat their bag lunches.

Realms of Earth and Sky »

Featuring Indian miniature paintings spanning the 15th-19th centuries in the exhibition Realms of Earth and Sky and the Museum’s collection of Indian Art, this two-hour workshop studies portraits, stories of courtly love, epic battles, gods and men, literary text, and songs rendered in intricately painted details. In the studio, students will create their own lavishly illuminated manuscript painting. Reservations for Realms of Earth and Sky Student Workshops are available Tuesdays and Wednesdays from November 10, 2015 – February 10, 2016. Space is limited.

Explore the works of twenty-eight of China’s best-known contemporary artists including Ai Weiwei , Qiu Zhijie, Zhang Enli, and Zhang Huan. Lively tour conversations enable students to contemplate the artists’ responses to social issues such as rapid urbanization, population growth, consumerism, and cultural shifts.  In the studio, students will experiment with new media and surprising materials geared towards their grade level.  Reservations for 28 Chinese workshops are available Tuesdays and Wednesdays from September 2 – December 16, 2015. Space is limited.
