Guided Tours

Groups can explore the Museum's exhibitions and collections through a guided tour led by one of our knowledgeable docents. Select a theme below to learn more and register for your tour online.

  • Guided tours are offered throughout the year on Tuesdays-Sundays during normal Museum hours.
  • Guided tours are 1 hour long.
  • Two week’s advance reservation is required.
  • The Museum offers guided tours to groups of 10 or more.
  • General admission fees are $6 per Adult and $5 per Senior (65+). Admission fees to special exhibitions may vary. 
  • If you need to cancel your tour reservation, please notify the Tour Scheduler at (210) 978-8138. If you are running late on your tour day, please notify the Museum’s front desk at (210) 978-8100.

Special Exhibition Tours »

Focus your tour on one of the Museum's special exhibitions.

American Art »

Consisting of portraits, landscapes, still life, religious subjects, and historical scenes, the Museum’s American collection reflects the events and ideas that had an impact on the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Asian Art »

One of the largest and most comprehensive collections of its kind in the United States, the Museum’s Asian art collection features outstanding works of art from China, India, Japan, Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, Burma, and numerous other countries and covers nearly 6,000 years of Asian art history.

Contemporary Art »

The Museum’s Contemporary collection features paintings, photography, and assemblage sculptures from local and international artists. The objects are grouped thematically, with sections devoted to traditional subjects as well as groupings devoted to identity and heritage and other social issues that defined the late twentieth century.

Egyptian, Greek and Roman Art »

The Museum’s collection of art from the Ancient Mediterranean World features Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and Etruscan objects.

Latin American Art »

The Museum’s Latin American art covers 4,000 years of historical objects from Mesoamerica, Central America, and South America. The collection features pieces from the Pre-Columbian and Spanish Colonial eras, and Modern/Contemporary pieces and those from the folk art tradition.

Tours for Visually Impaired

10:00 am the first Saturday of every month or by special arrangement

Docent-led tours for the blind and visually impaired include descriptive language, touch, sound and smell to enhance the visitors’ experience with art. Guide dogs, sighted companions and others are welcome on the tours, as are wheelchairs and other walking aids.

An introduction to customs, rituals, and celebrations around the world, this tour examines beliefs and practices of peoples throughout history.


Art in the Americas »

Talk about the stories, customs, and daily life of the peoples who have inhabited the Americas through the museum’s Pre-Columbian, Spanish Colonial, American, and Modern and Contemporary Latin American art collections.


Self-Guided Visits

During a self-guided visit, groups are welcome to explore the Museum's permanent collections and special exhibitions.


  • Self-Guided Visits are offered throughout the year: Tuesdays-Sundays during normal Museum hours.
  • We recommend that you plan your visit to be approximately 1 hour long.
  • One week advance registration required.
  • The Museum offers self-guided visits to groups of 10 or more.
  • Admission fees are $5 per Adult and $4 per Senior (65+).
