Enjoy an intimate, casual evening online with artist Terrell James, currently featured in our special exhibition Texas Women: A New History of Abstract Art. She'll talk about her practice as an artist with curator Suzanne Weaver and will answer questions.
More about the artist:
Terrell James (b. 1955, Houston) is an abstract painter who exhibits nationally and internationally. She produces on multiple media from vigorous mural-scale works in oil to works on paper (drawings, etchings, lithographs, monoprints, and monotypes) or even sculptures.
Her paintings are interpretations of landscapes that are both internal and external—such as The Game, in SAMA's permanent collection and featured in Texas Women. James has continuously sought unfamiliar environments in which to paint, producing works in place that attend to an area’s specific local light, color, tone, and history, and allowing the disruption and new material to change ongoing work in her home studio in Houston, Texas.
