Masanobu Yamazaki, Conservator of Japanese Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will talk about the intricate techniques of mounting Japanese scroll paintings and the lengthy apprenticeship that goes into this specialized work. Following this presentation, he will speak in the gallery about the scrolls that are on view in Heaven and Hell: Salvation and Retribution in Pure Land Buddhism. Reception to follow.
