Davis will explore Sully’s creation of this monumental and innovative painting of Washington poised on the banks of the Delaware River on Christmas Night, 1776, and trace the history of the painting from its commission to its current home in the Art of the Americas Wing at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
