The Copperleaf Quintet sings selections from Francisco Guerrero's 16th century "Canciones y Villanescas Espirituales", a large collection of sacred songs and spiritual villanescas (early forerunners of the madrigal) that incorporate rhythmic energy with Spanish texts. Guerrero's music was carried by the Spanish to every church and mission of the New World so that even now, centuries after his death, his music can still be found in the archives of Latin American cathedrals.
