Students travel East from India to China, and cross the sea to Japan in this Asian-themed workshop, seeing such cultural artifacts as a Tibetan sand mandala, a Japanese carriage (palanquin) and two reconstructed rooms from Imperial China. This workshop follows a timeline of cultural and artistic changes as students discover the implications of Columbus’ 1492 voyage. Students will explore the Pre-Columbian, Spanish Colonial, Folk Art and Contemporary art galleries in our Latin American Wing and conclude the trip with a related art project.
