Education: Workshop Tours
Wednesday Student Workshops are given by SAMAs docents and offered on Wednesdays during the school year from 9:45 am to 11:45 am.
Each workshop consists of a gallery tour followed by a hands-on art project designed to meet curriculum standards. We can accommodate 20 to 30 students per workshop.
Admission fees are $3 per student and $3 per chaperones.
One chaperone is required per 10 students. Chaperones must be 18 years or older.
Asian Cultures

Students will travel East from India to China, and cross the sea to Japan in this Asian-themed workshop.
Participants will see various cultural artifacts along the way including a Tibetan sand mandala, a Japanese carriage (palanquin) and two reconstructed rooms from Imperial China. In this workshop students will develop a broader understanding of various artistic expressions from the Contemporary period, including the language of art and the discovery of new materials used by artists. his art appreciation experience will conclude with a hands-on art project.

This workshop will reveal the lifestyles and beliefs of Ancient Egypt. Students will uncover the Museums collection of art and artifacts such as mummy cases, hieroglyphs, statues and vessels. The workshop concludes with a hands-on art project.

This workshop follows a timeline of cultural and artistic changes as students discover the implications of Columbus 1492 voyage. Students will explore the Pre-Columbian, Spanish Colonial, Folk Art and Contemporary galleries in our Latin American Wing and conclude the trip with a related art project.
Meets many Social Studies, Fine Art and Spanish Cultural and Linguistic 3-12 TEKS. Ideal for World Studies, 4th and 7th Grade Texas History and 3-12 Spanish classes.

During their visit students will discover Ancient Greek and Roman objects such as stone carvings, mosaics, sculptures and coins. These objects give students insight into mythological stories, lifestyles and ancient forms of art and portraiture.

Learn about the early formation of the United States of America through its paintings and sculptures. Historical discussions will include British colonization, the founding of our country, Westward Expansion and lifestyles from the 17th through 19th centuries. This adventure concludes with a period-appropriate art project.
