Flora and Fauna

Science, social studies and art are synchronized in this cross-cultural workshop which reveals the wide array of animals and plants depicted in the museum's collection. Compare and contrast the natural environment with man-made environments for animals with a tour of the special exhibition Chinese Cricket Cages - The Ernest K.H. Lee Collection.
Early Childhood Series – Shapes in Art

How do artists from different civilizations and eras use shapes in art? Learn techniques for exploring and identifying shapes in works of art with young children, and participate in hands-on activities designed to build a child's vocabulary, fine motor skills and higher order thinking skills.
Evening for Educators: Take One Object
Wednesday, May 2, 5:30 to 7:30 pm
Great Hall. Free, Advance registration required, 2 CPE/GT
Social studies, math, science and art converge in lesson plans developed by area educators which highlight one iconic object chosen from SAMA's collection. Participating educators will have their projects displayed, and hands-on activities will be available.
Summer Teacher Institute: Travel the Trade Routes
Tuesday, June 19 – Friday, June 22, 10 am to 3 pm daily

Discover how ideas, goods and services were exchanged across cultures which are represented in SAMA's collection. In-depth, hands-on art and writing activities linking social studies, science and art designed to enhance learning in the K-12 classroom will be presented.
Continue to visit this site for other special professional development opportunities that are sporadically listed during the school year. These opportunities will be lectures and will provide Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits.
