Interns needed:  1
Dates:  January –May 2013 (Spring Semester)
Hours:  Minimum of 15 to 20 hours a week (M-F varied hours 9 am-5 pm), $1000 Stipend upon completion
Duties:
  • Assistance with daily membership duties, events, and promotions
  • Assemble packets and prepare general mailings
  • Assist with fundraising operations including preparation of materials and updates to Raiser’s Edge software for donors and members
  • Support Membership Manager and other development department team members in various duties
  • Aid with filing and other clerical and organizational tasks

Volunteer Programs

The San Antonio Museum of Art is looking for energetic and enthusiastic individuals to volunteer their time to assist with a variety of programs and projects. The Museum would not be what it is today without the dedicated volunteers that serve, educate, and welcome Museum visitors.  All volunteer positions are unpaid; interviews and background checks are required. 


Docents

The Museum needs enthusiastic people who enjoy public speaking and working with a variety of museum patrons of all ages, especially school‐aged children. Docents must have a sincere interest in art and history, though no formal background is required in either subject area. 

Becoming a San Antonio Museum of Art Docent is a commitment:

  • Interviews: Before the entering the training program, candidates participate in a group interview and learn about the program from active docents.  The next interview/preview sessions will take place 
  • Orientation and training: New docents entering the program must attend a five-day New Docent Orientation from August 28 through September 1, 2017. Following orientation, weekly training classes are held on Mondays from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. throughout the school year. Trainings focus on the Museum's collection, age‐appropriate tour techniques, inquiry methods, and gallery activities. 
  • Time commitment: Candidates must be able to commit at least three years to the program.
    • Year 1: Participate in weekly training
    • Year 2: Participate in monthly training sessions focused on tour development and lead school tours at least one half‐day per school day week 
    • Year 3+: Participate in monthly continuing education trainings and lead school tours at least one half‐day per school day week 
  • Knowledge: Become proficient in all school tour themes offered by the education department, covering every collection area in the Museum.
  • Email access: Maintain email contact and internet access.
  • Membership: Become a Museum Member at your preferred level.

Visitor Services Volunteers 

Visitor Services Volunteers greet and inform Museum visitors and help with Museum programs as needed. Visitor Services Volunteers provide information about the Museum’s collections, exhibitions and programming as well as general Museum information. Applicants must be enthusiastic, comfortable talking to visitors, and interested in art and history. Visitor Services Volunteer Application

Museum Allies Volunteers: 

Museum Allies is our volunteer program for college and university students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program who enjoy art and art history.  Recent college graduates are also welcome to apply. Museum Allies volunteers assist with Family, Public and Marketing programs; working with staff, artists, and visitors at events such as First Sundays for Families, Family Flicks, Film on the Green, Art Party and Date Night.  Museum Allies may also assist with materials prep for events.  Applicants should be flexible and comfortable speaking with visitors.  Museum Allies volunteers must commit to volunteering for at least eight events per school or calendar year. Museum Allies Volunteer Application

Museum Teens:  

Museum Teens are volunteers aged 14 to 18 who assist local artists and staff during First Sundays for Families events at the museum.  We welcome teens who love talking about art, making art, and helping families with art activities.  Applicants should be flexible, comfortable speaking with visitors and enjoy working with art materials. Teen volunteers must commit to volunteering for at least 4 family days during a school or calendar year and provide their own transportation.  A parent/guardian release form must be submitted as part of your application if you are under 18.  Museum Teens Volunteer Application
