The meditation workshop is led by Dr. Chia-ju Chang, Assistant Professor of Chinese Language and Literature at Trinity University.

Dr. Chang has been studying Rinzai Zen Buddhism for over ten years with Kurt Spellmeyer, (Kankan Sensei), founder of The Cold Mountain Sangha in New Jersey.  This summer she was ordained as a Zen priest (Osho). Her dharma name is Guan Xue which means "observing the snow."  The Cold Mountain lineage of Rinzai Zen can be traced back to the Han Shan Temple in Suzhou, China.

In this workshop participants will learn introductory techniques in the art of Zen Meditation.

Zen focuses on being present here and now with what is here and now just as it is.  The vehicle for achieving this awareness is seated meditation – when breath, mind and body come together as one reality. The practice originated about 2500 years ago when Siddhartha Gautama, called the Buddha or “awakened one” achieved enlightenment while meditating under a tree. This practice has passed from India to China and Japan and other countries including the United States.

If you are interested in experiencing Zen meditation, please join us.

These workshops are FREE and open to the public. Chairs and a limited number of meditation cushions will be provided. You may bring your own meditation cushion or yoga mat if you have one. Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Please arrive 10 minutes before class time
